Candles glow for Chanukah season

RIGA - As darkness fell on Dec. 3, members of Latvia's renewed Jewish community marked the start of Chanukah by lighting the first candles on their menorahs.An eight-day celebration commemorating "miraculous" events that took place more than 2000 years ago, oil that burned for eight days for Jewish soldiers instead of just one as they expected, the holiday has developed a new significance in modern times."Chanukah is a very popular holiday.
