Kaktys resigns

VILNIUS - Sigitas Kaktys, minister of administration reforms and municipal affairs, finally surrendered to the demands of President Valdas Adamkus, opposition MPs and the news media to resign. Kaktys handed his resignation papers to Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius on Dec.6. Kaktys is suspected of unfairly declaring his property.One episode of wrongdoing has been confirmed by the state tax inspection office. This year Kaktys bought a 900 square meter plot in Vilnius for 54,000 litas ($13,500). The law requires that purchases of over 44,900 litas be declared within three months to the tax ins...
