Official resigns after drunk driving incident

TALLINN - State Secretary Uno Veering has resigned after hitting the car of a regional police commissioner while driving drunk. A government spokesman said the state secretary, who has been in his post four years, tendered his resignation to outgoing Prime Minister Mart Siimann March 19. The prime minister has one month to accept the resignation. Controversy over the incident was heightened by what was seen as interference from Interior Minister Olari Taal.
