Laar gets a second chance at the top

TALLINN - Chairman of the Pro Patria Union Mart Laar has been authorized by Parliament to form the next government of Estonia. The move followed Laar's designation as a candidate for prime minister by the President of Estonia Lennart Meri March 19. Although Laar's party failed to win the most votes in the country's March 7 election, a coalition of the Pro Patria Union, Reform Party and the Moderates won 53 of the 101 Parliament seats and announced their bid to form a majority government.
