Kristopans backs off ministers' wage increase

RIGA (BNS) - Shortly after initiating a discussion on raising ministers' salaries, Prime Minister Vilis Kristopans said at a March 15 press conference the issue will not be considered until May at the earliest.Last week, just a day after speaking in favor of raising ministers' wages according to the average minimum wage in Latvia, Kristopans told the Town Council in Smiltene that ministers' salaries should actually be reduced."There is only one criterion - the wages of ministers should correspond to the growth and fall in the average wage level in the country," said Liga Krapane, the prime ...
