Environmental standards will take time in Estonia

TALLINN (BNS) - Estonia needs a transition period until the year 2016 to bring its environment legislation in line with European Union laws, the Estonian Foreign Ministry said March 15.The most time is needed for raising the quality of drinking water since 60 percent of the water supply pipes in the country are old and in a poor state of repair, a spokesperson at the ministry said.More than 40 percent of water supply companies and small local water utilities in Estonia are providing water to their customers which fails to meet both the EU norms and the standards effective in Estonia.Apart f...
