RIGA - Lithuania is one of the top three applicants for NATO membership, says a recent report by the Congressional Research Service of the U.S. Congress.Of the nine countries of the former East bloc that have applied for NATO membership, the study found Slovenia the most qualified.According to the report, released Feb. 9, the country surpassed the standards met by the nations selected to join the military alliance next month - Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.After Slovenia, Lithuania and Slovakia were listed as the best prepared applicants.Estonia and Latvia did not fare so well.
