Latvia's reputation at risk if tires stay

RIGA - The 1,600 ton cargo of used tires, stuck in Latvia since last August, should not be allowed to stay in the country, according to State Environment Minister Inese Vaidere."If the tires stay in Latvia, the world would get the wrong signal that Latvia is a country where one can bring waste and leave it - or worse - that at Latvian taxpayers' expense, this waste will be processed," Vaidere told reporters at a Jan. 27 press conference called to discuss the issue.The tires were shipped from Norway to Riga late last August, where they were supposed to be transported by train to Russia.Of t...
