VILNIUS - In 10 years, Vilnius will look very different than it does today. That's because the year 2009 will mark the 1,000th birthday of the written word "Lithuania." It appeared for the first time in German chronicles of the time, and the city of Vilnius plans to get itself recognized as cultural capital of Europe in 2009 to commemorate the occasion. It may seem a bit early for all this, but for Lithuanians, this is serious business.
