OIL LEAK AT VENTSPILS PORT: An oil leak discovered in Ventspils port Jan. 19 had covered 200 square meters of the port's water before special vessels cleaned it up, according to the National Fire and Rescue Service. The Ventspils Regional Environmental Office will launch an investigation to establish who was to blame for the leak, the rescue service said. It is possible the oil in the port's waters is related to the accident at the Latvian Railway depot where oil was spilled Jan. 17.
