Sweden pulls for Latvian EU membership

RIGA (BNS) - Sweden has long been one of the Baltics' biggest cheerleaders within the EU, and Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh said during her visit to Riga last week that her country still hopes Latvia will begin EU membership talks as soon as this fall.Latvia will be able to start membership talks if the country continues reforms in economy, Lindh predicted.The minister believes the decision made at the Vienna summit late last year about the possible opening of the negotiations allows Latvia almost automatically to begin the talks this year."I am rather optimistic that Latvia might beg...
