RIGA - At the end of a four-day visit to Riga last week, OSCE Commissioner for National Minorities Max van der Stoel said Latvia has every right to protect its state language but cannot use any means necessary to do it."I support promoting the knowledge of the Latvian language and also give my full support to the principle of a language law," van der Stoel said at a Foreign Ministry news conference Jan. 13.
