Gorbunovs spurns presidential nomination

RIGA (LETA) - In a suprise move at the Latvia's Way party congress Dec. 19, Transport Minister Anatolijs Gorbunovs turned down his party's nomination for the presidency.Addressing the congress, Gorbunovs said that Latvia's Way's success in the October general elections was not so great to entitle it to both the prime minister and state president offices.He also expressed doubt whether he would receive the necessary support of the Parliament, predicting that the For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK party would reject him because he is a "turncoat" and "For Human Rights in a United Latvia" would v...
