First liver transplant in Baltics a success

TARTU (BNS) - Estonian surgeons successfully carried out the Baltic countries' first liver transplant operation Jan. 3 and the condition of the patient was reported as stable the following day.The 11-hour operation, conducted at the Tartu University clinic, was completed at 10 a.m. Jan. 4, a spokesman for the clinic reported.The patient, Lehar Laansalu, 27, suffered from liver disease and the only chance for him to live was to transplant a donor's liver.
