Over 13,000 people have turned out to vote in Latvia's 12th national elections today.

Latvia goes to the polls on October 4 with latest  figures showing pro Russia party Harmony in front.

There are over 1.5 million eligible voters in Latvia. Polling stations opened on Wednesday across the country. However,  around 300,000 people are not eligible to vote in Latvia as they are classed as non citizens.

Some voting stations will also offer voters the opportunity to submit their vote beforehand on Friday as well. This is an opportunity for those who will not be in the country or are busy on voting day to submit their vote.

Latvia's Central Election Commission says votes will be kept for safe keeping, and will be deposited in the voting box on election day if the voter does not come back to retrieve the vote if he/she changes their mind.

The actual 12th Saeima elections will take place from 7:00 am. to 8:00 pm. on October 4.

A total of 1,052 voting stations will be open during the 12th Saeima elections in Latvia and around the world. There will be 99 voting stations operating abroad.
