Finnish president touches on EU, Latvian citizenship

RIGA (BNS) - The Finnish president, in Latvia Aug. 1 for celebrations of the Liv ethnic group, voiced support for the Baltic country on the road to the European Union. Martti Ahtisaari addressed the gathering in the northwestern Latvian village of Mazirbe about 150 kilometers from the Latvian capital, Riga, saying he hoped amendments to the country's controversial citizenship law would be enforced soon.
