His Majesty King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf and Her Majesty Queen Silvia are on a state visit to Latvia today, March 26 and tomorrow upon the invitation of President Andris Berzins, reports LETA.
The royal couple is accompanied by an official delegation, including representatives of the Swedish government and a business delegation, said the Swedish Embassy.
The goal of the state visit is to further strengthen the excellent relations between Sweden and Latvia in culture, politics and economy. The visit starts with the royal Swedish couple meeting the Latvian president and Saeima speaker Solvita Aboltina, a flower laying ceremony at the Freedom Monument, and a tour of the Museum of Occupation.
The state visit will continue with the King opening the Swedish-Latvian Business Forum and meeting Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma, while the Queen will participate in several events related to the culture and social welfare.
As part of the state visit there will be a 20 year anniversary ceremony of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.
