Former Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) has withdrawn his candidacy for the president of the European Commission, according to the European People's Party Twitter account, reports LETA.

The portal diena.lv says that this decision has been made, perhaps, due to another agreement. The European People's Party will now have to choose between two candidates - current European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services Michel Barnier and former Luxembourgian Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker.

Juncker is currently considered a favorite. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has expressed indirect support for his candidacy.

Today, March 6 and tomorrow, the European People's Party will hold a congress in Dublin to select its candidate for the President of the European Commission.
