Baltics: land of misconception

Last year the Latvian Institute, the organi-zation assigned the daunting task of developing Latvia's image abroad, received the findings of a study of foreigners' impressions of the country. The results were not encouraging."People don't know very much about Latvia," said Ieva Pigozne of the Latvian Institute. "And what they do know is usually negative."When asked to list the first three words Latvia brings to mind, people mentioned mountains, Arctic landscapes and the Cyrillic alphabet.
