Hundreds of events planned for Latvia’s presidency

Up to 200 events will take place in Latviaafter it takes control of the European Union presidency in 2015, reports LETA.

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said events include the Eastern Partnership summit in 2015 and the Europe-Asia meeting of education ministers.

It’s also hoped the digital assembly annual meeting could also be hosted in the country. 

“We would like Europeto follow us, instead of us following Europe,” Rinkevics said.

The Secretariat of the Latvian Presidency has been given the task of working together with ministries and other state institutions to decide on these events.

Latvia will hold the European presidency for six months as of Jan. 1, 2015. Lithuania currently hosts the presidency.

The presidency will allow Latvia to influence the EU agenda and guide its endeavors.
