Victims tell court of deportation horrors

TALLINN – Men and women deported to Siberia as children broke down in court as they remembered the horrors forced upon them 50 years before. Witnesses and victims were giving evidence at the trial of 80-year-old former NKVD security employee Vassili Beskov at the county court in Parnu. Beskov, 80, denies helping in the deportation of 223 people and rounding up seven people himself as part of the mass deportations of Estonians to Siberia in 1949.
