RIGA - Oil has washed ashore along 40 kilometers of coast in northern Kurzeme, near the port town of Ventspils, causing damage to the beach."The coastal winds are currently pushing the oil in the water back into the sea, but the oil that has already made it to the coast is being absorbed by the sand," said Zigurds Riekstins, an official with the Marine Environment Department.The oil began washing ashore early Oct. 25 and authorities immediately began clean up operations.
