Armed forces chief faces new charges

RIGA - Charges of corruption are now being added to the list of reasons why national armed forces Commander Juris Eihmanis, should resign.Last month, pressure was put on Eihmanis to leave his post after three drunken soldiers on holiday leave from an infantry battalion at Aluksne beat to death a father of two. Following this incident, the former chief of the border guard force, Leonids Lasmanis, said Eihmanis and the Defense Minister Talavs Jundzis should step down so the armed forces could regain the respect of the public.
