Bomb scares follow explosion in Old Town

RIGA - In the week following an explosion which shook Riga's Old Town, the city's police force has had to deal with a number of phony bomb threats.The wave of threats reached a peak on Oct. 8 when five warnings were made in a 24-hour period.Police received a call that day saying an explosive device had been placed in a supermarket in the Ziepniekkalns suburb of Riga. Firefighters, ambulance and police were dispatched to the location right away and people were evacuated from the building. No explosives were found.
