Evictions of families raise concern

RIGA – A number of prominent charitable organizations, concerned over the high number of evictions of families from their apartments, have signed an open letter urging the government to study the problem."Such a social policy as we have now is a time bomb that can lead to big trouble," said Janis Gulbis, director of Riga's Children's Rights Protection Center.Last year, at least 1,500 families in Riga were told by the courts they had to leave their apartments, according to the center. Another 9,000 families are waiting for a verdict from the court. The problem is not confined to the capital....
