Explosion rocks Old Town, confounds police

RIGA - It is still not clear what caused the powerful explosion that destroyed a building in Riga's historic city center and seriously injured one man.The blast, which occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. the night of Sept. 30, caused a Volkswagen Passat parked outside number 6 Audeju St., near the Centrs shopping mall, to explode."When the car's gas tank exploded, the blast was strong enough for the building beside it to catch fire," said Inga Honazko, police spokeswoman.The injured man, identified by police only as Vladimir S., was working as a security guard that night at a toy store loc...
