RIGA - Latvian parliament is split over new amendments that would make the Russian Orthodox Christmas an official state holiday.The bill was put forward by the pro-Russian-rights parliamentary group Harmony Center, which is currently in the opposition even though it is the largest party in Parliament. The bill would make January 7 an official state holiday alongside the currently recognized Christmas holiday of December 24-26.Tensions between ethnic Russians and Latvians have run high since the failure of a controversial general referendum to make Russian an official second state...
