Latvian coast insured against Butinge

RIGA – More than a month after workers began pumping crude oil through the pipes that feed the partially completed Butinge oil terminal, Lithuania has signed an insurance agreement that will compensate Latvia for any damages done to its environment in the event of an oil spill.Latvia will receive $150 million to cover the costs of a clean-up operation following a major spill at the off-shore oil terminal, according to the deal Lithuania signed with a British insurance company.
