TALLINN – A proposal to sack 24 Estonian language teachers is expected to cause a major shake up in education in the mainly Russian-speaking northeast. The Education Ministry has recommended sacking 24 teachers from the Ida Virumaa region because of their poor command of Estonian. A further 36 have been given until the start of the new school year to improve their language knowledge. The move will affect teachers at three schools in Narva, one school in Johvi, four in Sillamae and four in Kohtla-Jarve.
