Berzins becomes new president of Latvia

RIGA - Andris Berzins (Union of Greens and Farmers) has become the new president of Latvia.

53 Saeima deputies voted for Berzins during the second vote of the presidential election today - 44 against. The other candidate - the current President Valdis Zatlers received support from 41 deputies, whilst 56 voted against him.

Three deputies voted against both candidates.

99 Saeima members participated in the vote, submitting 97 valid ballots.
