Estonian national elections – a sign of democracy consolidation

This year’s general election saw 62.9 percent of Estonians going to the polls. While other governments had lost power as the citizens decided to punish them for austerity measures, Estonians demonstrated their support for the strict financial planning that saw unemployment rocket in the wake of the economic crisis. Election ‘victory’ was given to the Reform Party which took 33 seats in the 101-seat parliament Riigikogu.That gave the Reform Party 2 more seats than in the 2007 elections; their conservative coalition partner, the Pro Patria Union, jumped up by 4 seats...
