PARIS, France– Estonian Kaia Kanepi has defeated Latvian Anastasija Sevastova over two close fought sets in the opening round of the GDF Suez Open. Playing each other for just the second time, Kanepi improved her record to 2-0 over her Baltic neighbor, defeating Sevastova 7-6 6-2 in 1:12.26. While rankings were in the favor of Kanepi who is currently no. 17 in the world and seeded third for this tournament, form was on the side of world no. 36 Sevastova who recently made it to the round of 16 at the Australian Open. But after having come...
