Illegal immigrants start hunger strike

RIGA - Hunger strikes are in season. Just days after the end of a 42 day strike by Latvian greens against the construction of the Butinge Oil Terminal in Lithuania, illegal immigrants at the Riga detention center stopped eating to protest what they say are inhuman living conditions.Residents of the center demanded outside walks, general medical care and more opportunities to use the telephone. They also called for searches of their cells to stop. Those held at the center do not have the proper documents to be in Latvia and are waiting to be either sent back to their country, granted asylum ...
