VILNIUS - Lithuanian parliament has overwhelmingly voted to strip Linas Karalius of his mandate in parliament after being found in breach of the country's constitution by convincing one of his colleagues to vote in his stead while on a Thai holiday.

89 parliamentarians voted to strip Karalius of his post, while 16 voted against, 13 abstained and 12 were declared invalid. Aleksandr Sacharuk, who voted in the place of Karalius, will be allowed to keep his position.

Late last month the pair were found guilty of violating article 59 of the constitution, which states that they must uphold their oaths as MPs.

The story came to light when the vagrant parliamentarian posted some racy pictures - including ones of himself posing with scantily-clad Thai women - on his blog.
