Latvia preparing for accident at Butinge

RIGA - Latvian authorities are taking precautionary measures in case of an oil spill at the Butinge oil terminal in Lithuania, according to Environmental State Minister Indulis Emsis."Latvia is currently developing a national plan for the elimination of oil spillage," Emsis informed reporters at a press conference Aug. 19.So far, the ministry has spent $3 million in preparation against a possible accident. Much more money will have to be spent, the minister warned, if Latvia is to be adequately prepared."This is only the beginning, just one special clean-up vessel costs $3-4 million."Lithua...
