Estonian language policy too strict

TALLINN (BNS) - MP Sergei Ivanov of the United People's Party said the firm conviction of politicians here is that integration of Russian-speakers was possible only after they have learned Estonian, served as a serious obstacle to integration in real life. Ivanov said the government still viewed the large Russian community living in Estonia not as a political subject but as an object of its policies, based on the assumption that ethnic Estonians had been and will be writing laws which concern Russian-speakers.
