More children are born out of wedlock

TALLINN - Every second child in Estonia is born of unmarried parents as compared to one out of four in European Union countries, the Statistics Department reports. "In Estonia, the numbers are half and half, the number of births outside marriage is on the increase, but also the number of marriages has grown slightly and last year surpassed divorces by 72," a Statistics Department official said on Aug. 5.The rise in births out of wedlock can be explained by a decline in marriage across Europe.
