Lithuanian sympathies go out to Chechen cause

VILNIUS - A group of Lithuanian MPs organized a symposium on Chechnya in one of the halls of the Lithuanian Parliament May 7 and May 8. Four Lithuanian MPs and one each from Estonia, Latvia and Chechnya participated. An assistant of a Polish senator also took part. The symposium urged Russia to recognize the independence of its breakaway Caucases region republic, Chechnya. The Russian Embassy in Vilnius issued its traditional protest against this gathering, stating that Chechnya is part of Russia.
