VEISIEJAI - Veisiejai, a small town near the Lithuanian-Polish border, was occupied by some 250 Esperanto-speakers from around the world for the Days of Baltic Esperantists meeting July 18-24. Veisiejai is the birth place of the Esperanto language. The language's creator, Liudvik Zamenhof, wrote its first grammar there, which he published in Warsaw in 1887.A monument to Zamenhof was unveiled in the town on July 22 and Mass was held in the local church.
