TALLINN (BNS) – The chairman of the Estonian Center Party, Edgar Savisaar, said in an interview he would almost certainly have run for president in the fall of 1996 if he hadn't been implicated in a scandal of illegal tapings the year before.In an interview with the Finnish daily Iltalehti, Savisaar said the tape scandal was part of a political manhunt.Savisaar was forced to quit as interior minister and he temporarily abandoned chairmanship of the Center Party after allegations that he had secretly taped his conversations with fellow politicians during the run-up to the spring 1995 general...
