VILNIUS (BNS) – The president of the United States corporation Williams International, John Bumgarner, began his two-day visit to Lithuania Monday to discuss his company's planned investments in Lithuania's oil sector.
He is expected to meet Lithuanian Economy Minister Vincas Babilius, Foreign Minister Algirdas Saudargas and Finance Minister Algirdas Semeta Monday. On Tuesday, Bumgarner will meet Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Vagnorius.
"Negotiations between the Lithuanian government and Williams International have reached the stage where my participation has become necessary. The purpose of this visit is to advance these negotiations to the point where a mutually acceptable and beneficial agreement can be reached in the very near future," Bumgarner said in a press release Sunday.
Bumgarner is convinced that the Lithuanian government and Williams International "are well aligned concerning our participation in Lithuania's oil sector."
He added that "our company is better positioned to implement this goal than any other company active in the international oil and gas sector."
Williams is planning to take a 33 percent share in each of Lithuania's three major oil industry companies – Mazeikiu Nafta (Mazeikiai Oil), Butinges Nafta (Butinge Oil), and Naftotiekis (Oil Pipeline).
