RIGA – U.S. Secretary of State Strobe Talbott reaffirmed, at the July 8 inaugural session of the U.S.-Baltic Partnership, America's support for Baltic membership in the European Union and NATO and called Russian attempts to stand in the way "counter-productive.""These countries are sovereign, independent states with rights under international law, and each foreign minister has the right to make his own decision about how his country will defend itself," Talbott said at a news conference, flanked by the foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
