SOMETHING FISHY: A TBT journalist chows down on some Baltic sushi. Some of the sushi found in Tallinn is top notch and some is better left alone.

TALLINN - Sushi became so popular in Tallinn that it already feels like a national Estonian food. There are quite a few Japanese restaurants, and sushi is served at every corner. Such variety of places to eat at only serves to make the decision more complicated 's so here is a look at some of the top sushi places in town.
Probably one of the best is Sushi House, which has been awarded with the silver spoon, an Estonian gastronomy award. Located in the heart of the Old Town, but with fresh and modern design, this place offers a great selection of sushi, nigiri and maki at above average but still reasonable prices. It is a very classic and simple sushi bar.

Located nearby is one of the most well-known sushi places 's Silk. Silk is a top class, elegant and trendy restaurant. The menu has quite a decent selection of Japanese dishes, with fabulous deserts as well as a famous sushi bar. The open terrace during the summer adds the possibility of enjoying a cup of warm sake while watching people dashing around.

Even though Silk claims to be a sushi bar chain and offers cute restaurants in two other locations, the same owner does not necessarily mean the same quality and it is advised to stick to the one in Old Town. The famous plum wine, however, is the best in all of them and it is definitely worth trying a glass.
Those who want to have some romance can visit another place, named Velvet and located near the shore of the sea at Pirita beach. In the summer visiting this venue is probably not the best idea, as watching half naked, sweaty people while eating delicious food is never very appetizing. A sunny winter day will guarantee the best experience possible. There is a great fusion of cuisine and some of the best sushi in town.

The trendiest place to eat is Zebra lounge. It is not better than the other places, but it's slightly more expensive. Convenient parking and a central location makes this place very popular for lunch and pre-party gatherings. Besides sushi there are also some traditional meals, like pasta or soups.
The newest sushi place is Sushi Cat. The new locale has a great location, plentiful parking and cheap prices. In addition to these perks, both the service and the sushi are exceptionally high quality. It has an amazing design inspired by Japanese pop culture and waitresses dressed up like they just walked out of the Japanese cartoon playing on the big screen in front of Barbie-pink couches.

The place is too small to fit many people, but this makes the service extremely fast. A pleasant feature is the green tea and miso soup, compliments of the chief.
With such selection, anyone will be able to find something for their taste. Of course there are many other places that serve sushi around town, but be careful 's most of the coffee chains that delve into the art of sushi should probably stick with what they know best. Coffee.

Douzo meshiagare (enjoy your meal).
