Minister says too early to commit Estonia to gender equality

TALLINN(BNS) - The Estonian government supports the principle of equal pay for equal work for both sexes as set forth in the European Social Charter but cannot ensure compliance to it yet, Social Affairs Minister Eiki Nestor said at a meeting with women MPs on Nov. 9.Therefore the government has suggested to parliament not to ratify the provisions of the European Social Charter of 1961 which concern paying equal wages to men and women for work of equal value and ensuring a fair remuneration to all workers sufficient for a decent standard of living.Speaking before women MPs on Nov. 9, Nestor...
