New head of Lithuanian conference of bishops elected

VILNIUS(BNS) - Kaunas archbishop Sigitas Tamkevicius has been elected the new chairman of the Lithuanian bishops' conference for a term of three years. Tamkevicius, 60, replaces Vilnius Archbishop Audrius Juozas Backis, who will now take up the post of vice-chairman.Elections to the post of chairman happened Nov. 6 in Vilnius at a plenary meeting of the bishops' conference.
