Careful welcome for Belarusian dissident

VILNIUS - At first, Lithu-ania's top lawmakers appeared uncertain about the arrival of Semion Sharetsky, chairman of the Belarusian Parliament dissolved three years ago by Alexander Lukashenko.But after a few days of indecision, Sharetsky's Li-thu--anian counterpart, Vytautas Landsbergis, agreed to host a meeting with the man who Belarus' underground opposition says should become the country's temporary president.Lithuanian officials were nervous that Sharetsky's presence would undermine the somewhat stable relations between Lithuania and Belarus.But Sharetsky himself put the queasy at rest...
