Lithuania's top tour agency, Novaturas, canceled charter flight trips to Egypt scheduled for the summer, from May until Sept. 25, due to lackluster demand. Marketing director Brigita Sabaliauskaite said that the agency's charter flights would instead be diverted to Turkey. Tez Tour, a competitor, said it was not following suit. "We are sticking to our plans and will offer trips to Egypt, just as planned," Martynas Laivys told the Baltic News Service, adding that Novaturas' decision was "extremely rare" given that the Egypt trips had been published in
catalogues.

LDz Cargo, a subsidiary of Latvijas Dzelzcels (Latvian Railway), said it planned to carry up to 55 million tons of freight this year. Chairman Eriks Smuksts said that increases were expected in almost all cargo groups. "We expect oil product, coal, black metal cargo transportation to rise. The only group to reduce might be potassium salt, mainly due to disagreements in Ventspils' potassium salt terminal, Kalija Parks," said Smuksts. In 2007 the amount of cargos carried by rail reached 52.164 million tons, up 7 percent or 3.433 million tons from 2006.
