No more taxes for culture

TALLINN (BNS) - The Finance Ministry is considering abolishing a law that offers partial funding for culture and sports from excise tax revenues.Under a new plan, all tax revenues will in the future go into the state budget without a certain percentage being set aside for culture."At a time when it has been necessary to draw up an austerity budget we do not consider it right to give the Estonian Cultural Endowment an additional income," the ministry said in a letter to the Cabinet of Ministers.The authors of the new law find that the state should support the cultural sphere with a fixed sum...
