Latvia's language law nears passage

RIGA - Latvia's Parliament took one delicate step closer to passing a final revision of this summer's controversial language law.By press time Dec. 1, the standing committee on education, science and culture had reached majorities on all but one of the disputed articles of the new legislation. President Vaira Vike-Freiberga returned the law to Parliament after its passage by a majority vote in July.
