RIGA - One of the youngest members of Latvia's Parliament has been selected to take over an embattled ministry, which endured two strikes and a resignation in the last six weeks.Maris Vitols, 27 years old, a member of the People's Party, was chosen as the new minister of education and science on Dec. 13 by Prime Minister Andris Skele.Silva Golde, the former education minister, resigned her post in late November after negotiations with the Education and Scientific Trade Workers Union of Latvia, LIZDA, failed to prevent a second one-day strike on Dec. 1.LIZDA held its first strike on Nov. 16...
